Amigo's B&Bs House Rentals of Q. Roo Mexico's Kopelman
Family Get to Know Them!
The Kopelman Family in front of the Minsol Ha
Waterfall in Chiapas Mexico Spring 2001
The owner/hosts of the Cozumel based Amigo's Bed and
Breakfast chain are the Kopelman Family. The members of the family are Bob,
Kathy, Tatiana and Zachary.
We welcome you to our homes!
Bob was born in Brooklyn New York. He completed Stuyvesant
High school in Manhattan and Vassar College in upstate New York.. It was
during his days at Vassar, in completing his BA in Anthropology that his
love for travel evolved.. He spent time studying in Colombia South America
as part of the requirements for his degree in Latin American
studies. With this exposure to a foreign country began a love for
travel that later in life would be his means of living...
Bob and children in front of Raymond House Dorm
at Vassar Summer 2001.
For many years Bob worked as a tour guide or tour escort
taking both general interest groups as well as specialty groups ( doctors,
nurses, astronomers among other groups) to remote parts of the world. It
was also during his years at Vassar that Bob first had contact with
Cozumel, taking a spring break vacation to the island.. A few years later,
Bob was assigned a job in Cozumel working as a destination coordinator for
a New York based charter operator.. It is during this time that he fell in
love with the island and decided that it would be his home.. In the early
-mid 80s along with a former classmate he formed a house and condo rental
company called At Home In Cozumel..
Bob continues to oversee his company and to travel to remote areas of the
world. This travel though now a days is for pure pleasure and personal
enjoyment.
Kathy also hails from the Big Apple, having grown up in
the Bronx. She completed St. Barnabas elementary and high schools..
From the age of 4, Kathy always knew she wanted to be a nurse, so in order
to pursue that, she attended and graduated the Cochran School of Nursing
in Yonkers New York.. While working full time as a staff ICU nurse,
Kathy completed her BS in Nursing Science from Mercy College and was
inducted as a charter member into the regional division of Sigma Theta
Tau, the national honor society for nursing.. Her background
has been in adult critical care nursing and she was a certified critical
care specialist.. In mid 80s she took one of those "specialty "nursing
tours and low and behold who was the tour guide.... Bob.. this is how they
met...
Wedding day June 27,1987 Yonkers New York
Shortly after meeting they knew this was going to be a "forever"
relationship . Plans were then started for the move to Cozumel.. House was
purchased, wedding performed and in 87 the move was finally complete. Bob
had been living on the island for many years previously and Kathy often
visited him for extended stays ,but now it would be 100% time on the
island. Career change to tourism in a variety of different jobs. Now she
runs and operates the Amigo's B&B chain ( Cozumel
Bacalar and Isla Holbox Q. Roo) and is mother to Tatiana and
Zachary.
The Kopelmans have two friendly cats, Missy and Dottie who enjoy
the attention they receive from the guests at Amigo's B&B Cozumel!!
